This date has changed due to the unavailability of the venue  Includes afternoon tea | £20 | Talk In the early 19th century, the demand for bodies for medical training outstripped the regular supply, and the ‘Resurrection Men’ raised the recently buried and delivered them by various surreptitious means to the anatomists. A national trade, many instances of body snatching occurred in and around York, probably supplying Edinburgh University. Dr Peter Hogarth will tell us more. Stockeld Park, Wetherby, LS22 4AN Tues 12 May, 12.30 – 2.30pm Tour: Includes tea, coffee & cake | £30 Stockeld Park is a grade one listed House built in the mid-18th century (and extended in the late 19th) with fine internal features and extensive parkland. Its history is a tale of scandal, adversity and recovery from cavalier stewardship. Friends will enjoy a rare private tour of the house, with its spectacular staircase, and the chance to explore both the parkland and cafe. Start at St Helen’s Church, Escrick, YO19 6EX Wed 16 Sept, 2pm Tour: Includes refreshments | £25 Guided by expert Richard Carr-Archer, York architect specialising in churches, we will visit St Helen’s Church Escrick (built 1856–57), St Helen’s Church Skipwith (c.960-c.1300) and St Helen’s Church Wheldrake (mostly rebuilt 1778–79). Three very different buildings but each with fascinating stories. Fairfax House  Friday 7 August 2.30 pm Talk: £10 Timed to coincide with the Georgian Festival, the Friends of Fairfax House are invited to join a talk by Lottie Adcock of Dance the Past. York is fortunate to enjoy the Assembly Rooms and to have built a world first grandstand at York Racecourse. Lottie is dedicated to researching and sharing the history of dancing, etiquette and society in order to preserve this important piece of social history for future generations. She will tell us about the importance of the Season at that time and York's place in that, as well as how dance was an integral part of society.

Old Station Building, 24 Church Road, Stamford Bridge, YO41 1DG Wed 30 Sept, 2pm Tour: Includes tea, coffee & cake | £20 A private view of the tapestries completed in 2021 for the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Stamford Bridge in Sept 1066. We will be given an introduction to the history of the tapestries and how they were created, after which we can examine the embroidered panels. Refreshments follow this opportunity to see one of the hidden gems of East Yorkshire.
