Join us for an insightful panel discussion connected to our special exhibition: Does my head look BIG in this? The art of portrait caricature. Our Museum Director Beth Bryan will chair a panel of three artists featured in the current exhibition: Dave Brown, Nicola Jennings, and Wilfrid Wood. With different approaches, inspiration, and evolution of their practices, attendees will hear a range of perspectives and have the opportunity to raise questions themselves to the panel. What makes portrait caricature distinct as an artform? How have they handled bad reactions from those they've caricatured? Is portrait caricature more reflective of or influential on public opinion? Dave Brown - a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice ranges across sculpture, painting and political cartooning. He holds a degree in Fine Art from The University of Leeds. An award-winning political cartoonist, he was the chief editorial cartoonist for The Independent from 1996 to 2026.

Nicola Jennings - Chair of the British Cartoonists' Association and The Cartoon Art Trust and the principal curator for the exhibition Does my head look BIG in this? The art of portrait caricature. Her work can be seen in The Guardian where she regularly draws the editorial cartoon. 

Wilfrid Wood - Born in 1968 in London and grew up in Sussex before studying graphic design at Central St. Martins. After graduating, Wilfrid had several jobs in publishing before moving onto the satirical TV programme Spitting Image as a 'headbuilder.' This involved making puppets such as Rolf Harris and two headed fish. Wilfrid had various model-making and graphic design jobs, but in his heart he always wanted to be an artist - which is what he is now.
