Mott Haven, located on the former Morrisania estate, was founded by Jordan L. Mott, who built his iron works here in the mid-nineteenth century. Irish and German immigrants followed, some professional but mostly working class. As more people from other parts of the world moved to the neighborhood, new institutions developed.
