About Powderham

Nestled on the banks of the River Exe in Devon, Powderham Castle invites you to step into over 600 years of history. Built in 1391 by Sir Philip Courtenay, this Grade I listed fortress has been the Courtenay family's home for generations, blending medieval architecture with Victorian elegance. Today, it stands as a living testament to the past, offering visitors a chance to explore its storied halls, expansive grounds, and vibrant community events.

Booking policy

  • Booking Confirmation  - All bookings are subject to availability. A confirmation email or receipt will be sent once the booking is completed.
  • Payment Terms - Full payment is required at the time of booking. Accepted payment methods: Credit Cards, Debit Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay.
  • Cancellation & Refunds - Cancel 24 hours or more before your booking to receive a full refund. Cancel within 24 hours of your booking and receive a refund minus a £4 handling fee. No-shows are not eligible for a refund.
  • Rescheduling - Bookings may be rescheduled up to 1 day before the scheduled date, subject to availability. Rescheduling within 1 day may incur a fee. 
  • Special Requests - Any special requests should be communicated via email to castle@powderham.co.uk. While we do our best to accommodate, they are not guaranteed. 
  • Liability & Policy Changes - The business is not responsible for any unforeseen circumstances that may affect your booking. We reserve the right to modify this policy at any time.
  • Military Discount - 10% discount is applicable when booking with code MD1026  \\* only valid with ID on arrival 
  • Blue Light Discount - 10% discount is applicable when booking with code BL1026 \\* only valid with ID on arrival
  • Guided Tour tickets - must be purchased in addition to a full admission ticket. If you wish to join a tour, all members of your group are required to have a guided tour ticket.
