Richard Foulkes, Manchester Art
Gallery Volunteer Guide and researcher, presents a personal journey prompted by the
painting of Sir Gregory Page-Turner by the Italian artist Pompeo Batoni, held
in the Manchester Art Gallery collection. Through extensive archival research,
and Italian travel, Richard has investigated the significant features of this
painting relating to the 18th Century European Grand Tour.
In this presentation, he will explore how Sir
Gregory became involved in Georgian social society relating to the notorious St
James’s area of London and his dealings with King George III and the Prince
Regent. Through his research, Richard has been able to re-connect Sir Gregory
with members of his extended family and their modern-day descendants.
Afternoon tea will be served after the talk by Richard. If you have any allergies please let us know via matt@buxtoncrescenttrust.org so we can arrange alternative's for your requirements.
