About Ushaw Historic House, Chapels & Gardens

Ushaw is set in beautiful open countryside near Durham City. An arts, heritage and events venue, waiting for you to escape the everyday, stop the world for a while and be surprised. A registered independent charity, by visiting and supporting you are helping to preserve the history, culture and heritage of Ushaw for future generations to enjoy.

Booking policy

  • Tickets & Admission: Tickets must be booked for a specific date and time and are subject to availability. Concessions, discounts, or promotional tickets must be supported by valid proof on arrival.  
  • Cancellations & Refunds: Tickets are non-refundable unless an event is cancelled, in which case a refund or exchange will be offered.
  • Changes & Transfers: Where possible, we can move your booking to another date or event if you contact us in advance. This is subject to availability. Get in touch at tickets@ushaw.org
  • Events Programme: Concerts, theatre and special events may have separate terms which will be shown at the time of booking.
  • Weather & Closures: Gardens and outdoor events operate in most weather. In exceptional circumstances (e.g. severe weather, safety issues), we may close areas of the site or reschedule events.
  • Visitor Conduct & Safety: Visitors must follow staff instructions and site rules. We reserve the right to refuse admission or remove visitors whose behaviour may affect safety or enjoyment, without refund.
  • Onsite Payments: Ushaw operates a cashless system. We accept card and contactless payments only.
  • Photography & Media: By attending events at Ushaw Historic House, visitors acknowledge that photography and video recording may take place. Images or footage may be used for marketing, promotional, and publicity purposes across print, digital and social media. If you do not wish to be photographed or recorded, please inform a member of staff.

Ushaw Big Library
To help us protect and care for our collections, we kindly ask that you observe the following guidelines. Failure to do so may result in you being asked to leave the Library (CCTV is in operation).
  • Please do not touch the books
  • General, non-flash photography of the Library space is welcome. Tripods are not permitted.
  • Large bags and coats must be left at the bag drop near the entrance
  • No food or drink is permitted in the Library
  • Dogs are not permitted in the Library

Gift card terms

  • Valid for 1 year from purchase date
  • Gift cards are redeemable online
  • Gift cards cannot be exchanged for cash
  • Gift cards are not refundable
  • Gift cards are not replaceable if lost or stolen
