About Cambridge Flying Group
The Cambridge Flying Group is a non-profit-making, entirely volunteer, group open to all, which has been training people to fly for 70 years. We operate two Tiger Moths, G-AOEI and G-AHIZ, from the Shuttleworth Airfield at Old Warden in Bedfordshire.
Booking policy
All flights are highly weather dependent and therefore subject to safe flying conditions. If a flight has to be cancelled, it can be rebooked for an alternative date.
Flight times are ‘chock to chock’ (from the time we depart from the parking area until we return the parking area). Please note that we are an all-volunteer organisation operating vintage Tiger Moth aircraft and while every effort is made to fly on booked times, flight times may have to be changed at little or no notice for operational reasons.
We have a pilot weight limit of 100 kg and you need to be mobile enough to climb into and out of the cockpit without help (similar to stepping directly onto the second step of a flight of stairs, standing on a narrow sloping step and then stepping over a 50cm high fence). You will need reasonable manual dexterity and strength to operate seat belts and door latches, and reasonably good hearing. Due to the Tiger Moth’s fore and aft tandem cockpits, once flying your pilot can not provide the sort of physical help that would be possible with side-by-side seating, hence the importance of being able to hear safety instructions in the noisy cockpit environment.
Please be sure to wear suitable clothing: Flexible trousers that allow climbing in and out, soft-soled footwear, trainers are ideal, and sufficient layers to adapt to the conditions aloft. You will need to empty your pockets of anything that could fall out; keys, coins, phone etc. must be left on the ground.
