Forgotten Memories in our Landscapes – Newtonmore, Lore & History Walk (5-6 hours, 8km, 500m ascent) Private Group Booking

Overview

Embark on a journey of discovery on this steep hill, whose name is also the battle cry of Clan Macpherson. Together, we will delve into the art of interpreting our surroundings amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, while climbing up the steep slopes of this part of the Monadliath Mountains.
Immerse yourself in the timeless narratives that echo through the ages, enhancing your appreciation of the land's rich history and natural beauty through tales, poetry, and historical accounts and uncover the profound significance of oral tradition in the Highlands, where every story is intricately linked to the landscapes that inspired them. Experience the magic of bardic tales in their natural habitat, immersing yourself in history and folklore while surrounded by the very scenery that once captivated bards and storytellers. Reflect on the concept of Dùthchas, exploring why these ancient stories continue to resonate in today's world.
.
On this walk, you will hear stories and have a chance to share your own. You will also be encouraged to participate in a dialogue about our understanding of landscape, culture, and belonging.
There will be ample opportunities to express your understanding of the land in creative photography.

The photographs in this listing are all pictures taken on this walk in different seasons and are examples of some of the views we find along the way.

Group Size: The pricing for this Lore & History Walk is based on group bookings, with a flat fee regardless of the number of participants, accommodating from 1 to 12 individuals. Whether you're booking for one person or a full group, the price remains unchanged and you only need to check out one ticket.
Children: Children are very welcome to join. Please make sure, they are comfortable with the physical demands of the walk and are accompanied by an adult at all times. At check-out, you will have the option to enter the ages of any children within your group, which will help me in adapting the stories accordingly.
If you cannot find a walk that is suitable for you children, have any concerns, would like a shorter version of a particular walk etc. just get in touch. Adjustment and bespoke tours are no problem at all and i would love to plan with you.
Dogs: Friendly dogs are also very welcome on these walks and they will likely be in the company of our Landscape Lore dogs (you can meet them here), who usually come along on the adventure. To protect our environment, ground-nesting birds and life stock, it will be important that all dogs will be under close control of their owners.
If you prefer a dog-free walk, you can simply tick the box for 'dog free walk' upon booking and I will make sure that our pups stay cosy at home.
.
Duration: approximately 5-6 hours
Start time: Please choose the most convenient date and time for you from the booking options.
Meeting location: Newtonmore, more details will be provided upon booking, once your very personal tour is ready.
.
Acessibility Information: This walk will usually cover approximately 8km with breaks. The ascent will be approximately 500m with some very rough and steep parts, but we will be rewarded with lovely views (weather permitting) and stunning scenery. Careful and very sturdy footing is needed as the hill has crags, boulders and deep bracken. After the toughest part and some false summits we will reach the rocky ridge path higher up.
At an average fitness level, this walk would take about 4.5 hours, however, I always plan with some extra time, as we will be taking breaks to chat, take photos, share stories and have some snacks.
.
In case of severe weather conditions, I reserve the right to change the route of the walk or cancel the event. In this case you will receive a full refund of course.
.
