Take your SUP skills to the next level with our White Water SUP Leader Training. This course equips experienced paddlers with the knowledge, leadership skills, and safety awareness needed to guide groups on grade 2 (3) white water.
About the Course
This course is designed to develop your ability to plan, lead, and manage small groups on moving water safely and confidently. Over two days of training, you’ll gain practical experience in reading rivers, assessing hazards, and making informed decisions while leading others. The subsequent assessment can be booked separately - get in touch to arrange your assessment when you’re ready.
To get the most out of this course, participants should be happy paddling grade 2(3) rivers.
Courses are run nationwide, with sessions generally in South or North Wales depending on water conditions, but can be arranged anywhere with suitable rivers. Group sizes are up to 4 participants per instructor, though multiple instructors can be added for larger groups. The course cost is £220 per person.

- Develop rescue and recovery skills for both individual paddlers and the group
- Practice decision-making and leadership in moving water environments
- Learn how to select, use, and maintain appropriate SUP equipment
- Understand risk management, including emergency planning and incident response
- Gain confidence in guiding and mentoring others while on the water

Assessment Prerequisites
To book the assessment, participants must have:
What to Bring
- Full British Canoeing membership
- Valid 2-Day First Aid award (within 3 years)
- Recognised Safeguarding training (within 3 years)
- White Water Safety or White Water Safety and Rescue Training
What to Bring
For this course, you should have your own paddling kit suitable for the white water environment. Some equipment can be hired for an additional cost - please get in touch if you require any additional kit.
