What to Expect
Our Intermediate Caving Course in the Peak District offers a thrilling full-day experience exploring longer, more technical caves. You’ll be guided by fully qualified, local cave instructors who know the Peak District cave systems intimately. They will ensure your safety and support your learning throughout the day, giving you plenty of hands-on experience and expert advice.
This course is ideal for those who have tried caving before and want to push themselves further. You’ll encounter varied underground challenges such as climbing natural rock features, negotiating narrow squeezes, and navigating sections that may involve crawling or wading through water. The course also includes vertical elements where you’ll learn how to tackle climbs and abseils safely under supervision — perfect for developing your confidence with more physically demanding caving.
Alongside practical movement skills, you’ll build your understanding of cave environments, route finding, and how to manage underground hazards as part of a team. Your instructors will tailor the day to suit your group’s needs and weather conditions, choosing from limestone-rich caves around Castleton, the Hope Valley and wider Peak District - areas steeped in natural beauty, fascinating geology, and a rich mining heritage.
This course requires a reasonable level of fitness due to the physical nature of climbing, abseiling and crawling. It’s a great choice for adventurous individuals looking to progress their underground skills in a supportive, fun, and expertly led environment.
