Street Photography Experience in Manchester
My street photography workshop takes place in Manchester's’ Northern Quarter. The Northern Quarter has become a destination in its own right being the centre for alternative and bohemian culture. It is popular for its vast array of bars and cafes as well as its mix of music and clothes shops. It is also known as a home to the creative industries and in particular fashion design with various designers and clothing wholesalers populating its back streets. As we walk around you’ll notice a network of narrow alleyways and streets with lots of street and public art. The Northern Quarter has been used as film locations for films such as the 2004 version of Alfie because of the area’s stunning architecture and in 2011 in the filming of Captain America: The First Avenger Dale Street was used as its location for 1940s New York. Nightlife in the Northern Quarter includes music venues The Night and Day Café, Band on the Wall, the Roadhouse and The Ruby Lounge. It’s an amazing place for street photography both in the day and at night, it’s a location not to be missed. The workshop is ideal for beginners to street photography too. Description: This workshop is for photographers at all levels, using film or digital cameras, but also for those seeking personal development, those who want to realise their potential and especially if you’re seeking a new type of experience. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a beginner or professional, prefer shooting with a digital or analogue camera. I work with small groups, a maximum of 4, which allows me time to assess each group member and discuss what each person wants to achieve from the workshop. I teach in a practical way by showing, using straightforward, jargon free language and as the group is small you will have plenty of quality time throughout the day for one to one time with me. What you’ll learn. Again because group sizes are very small, I will help you on a one to one basis. I create the right environment for each person to grow. It all starts with a coffee and a chat so that I can assess your needs, from there I will help and mentor each person. Of course you will learn various street photography techniques, but more importantly I will help you understand yourself, focus on your strengths and help you to realise your potential. The experience is character building; you will have a deeper understanding of human behaviour. I will inspire you, give you the confidence to approach people in the street and, once approached, how to connect with them instantly putting them at ease and just as importantly gaining their confidence to capture the individual's character making it a mutually rewarding experience. It’s about personal enlightenment and fulfilment. I believe that a great image is 25% photographic skill 75% human skill. I teach you how to open your eyes to photographic opportunities and to capture the essence of this beautiful city. You will learn the art of preparation, as well as composition. You’ll be instructed as to how to capture images discreetly and openly and what to look out for. I teach in a practical way by showing, using straightforward, jargon free language. Street Photography Experience in Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a grand city with beautiful buildings and a very vibrant street culture, an ideal place for street photography. It has a mixture of people from all over the world who visit, add that to the architecture and its rich café bars and restaurants make it one of my favorite places to photograph and connect with people. Edinburgh is a diverse city with a multitude of fabulous locations in quite a small and concentrated area. The busy Princes Street bustles full of shoppers and tourists whereas The Royal Mile boasts many street performers and buskers. Narrow alleyways wind between striking buildings and lead to the markets, open parks and the fabulous train station. Street photography opportunities are endless. August dates take place during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, a superb opportunity to capture some great street portraits... Shooting at the festival is a great introduction and confidence builder to anyone new to street portraits, you will find loads of willing participants all eager to have their photos taken and happy to communicate with you which is vital to honing your skills. Weekend Dark Room Printing Experience
The artisan art of analogue monochrome photography is a beautiful, engaging process taking you on an addictive path to expressing yourself and creating an individual piece of art. - Keith Moss. My darkroom experience introduces you to black and white film photography and darkroom techniques, the objective is to give you a good grounding, base from which you can grow, and develop as a monochrome photographer, It is especially important to understand how to expose film correctly as well as how to develop film correctly and then go on to print it in the darkroom. My darkroom experience takes place in one of the country’s best hidden secret's Saltburn by the sea, one of the gems in the Northeast coast. What you will learn Day 1 In the morning after coffee we will set out and expose a roll of film in this wonderful area, after lunch its back to the darkroom to learn how to develop the role of film. Here you will learn about chemistry and various techniques of how process your film. Later in the first day you will then learn how to produce a contact sheet using Ilford multigrade resin coated paper. Day 2 We will start by assessing the contact sheet produced from the previous day. Once we have chosen our image, we will then look at the skills and techniques needed to produce our first print of the day. We will look at producing test strips.so that we can assess the correct exposure and the best grade to achieve a beautiful print. Along the way we will also look at various printing techniques these will include how to dodge and burn, how to do a split grade print, and the effects of different types of chemistry too. When the Darkroom experience is over, you will have a good understanding of the processes needed to create a beautiful black and white print. Everything we produce on both days will be yours to take home. Inclusions What you'll need 🧤 Warm Clothing ☂️ Waterproofs
