We'll aim to stop off at St Austell Brewery, the multi-award winning brewery which has just won the contract to supply Tribute Ale for all British Airways long-haul flights. It was founded in 1851 by Walter Hicks and is still 100% family-owned. The Brewery boasts a visitor centre, bar, restaurant and shop. Skinner's Brewery, founded in 1997 in Truro, makes Cornish Knocker and Betty Stoggs whilst putting a great emphasis on having a low impact on the environment. Cornish Crown Brewery, is a microbrewery and pub set in a quiet back street in Penzance. They sell three small-bath craft beers and take pride in the fact there are no distractions in the pub - no juke box, no slot machines and they don't even sell food, so you can maximise your time with the beer of course! ItineraryI'll recommend the best places to visit based on your interests. The tour can be completely flexible to suit your needs. Some recommended trips: Many of the stunning scenes from the Poldark series can be explored across Cornwall and it's a brilliant day out retracing key points. Winston Graham wrote 12 Poldark novels in all over a period of 57 years. He moved to Perranporth from Manchester with his family in 1925 when he was 17. The 1970’s saw the BBC producing costume dramas from the first seven of the Poldark novels and they were a huge success. In 2014 the BBC produced the first series of a new dramatisation of the books - with even more acclaim. The filming of the third series was completed in September 2016. A fourth series was completed in 2018 but was not based on any of the novels. The 1970’s Poldark was filmed partly in Cornwall but a lot of it was filmed outside the Duchy. The vast majority of the later Poldark was filmed at various locations in Cornwall. We’ll explore a lot of the history, scenes and of course stop off for some delicious food and pubs on the way. The tour can be completely flexible to suit your needs. There's so many gardens and houses to see, so this trip can easily be expanded out to multiple days to see it all. Cornwall is highly regarded as having some of the best historical buildings and beautiful gardens in the UK. We'll spend a day ticking off the 'must see' gems of Cornwall. In the central range of garden and house tours; choose from visiting Pencarrow House and Prideaux Place; Creed House and Bosvigo Gardens; Trelissick House and Trebah Gardens or Lanhydrock House and Japanese Garden. In the south east of Cornwall, chose between Mount Edgecombe, KenCaro Garden or Pine Lodge Gardens. If you aren’t sure about each of these, we can discuss what's best based on where you’re based, how many days you have and your interests. As an example, the below outlines what Pencarrow House and Prideaux Place encompasses. We start the day at Pencarrow House. The present building is a Georgian mansion but the site has been occupied since prehistoric times. The current owners have owned the estate since the late 1500’s. The house boasts a fine collection of paintings, furniture and porcelain. The grounds are extensive – over 50 acres – and include an Iron Age hill fort, sunken Italian Garden with a quatrefoil fountain, ice house, palm house, ancient Cornish cross, and a grotto, which is believed to have been a secret meeting place. We can lunch here or visit a local country pub and then move on to Prideaux Place, overlooking Padstow. This Elizabethan manor hour fell into private hands (the current owners) when Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries. The house is still very much the family home and as such is filled with an eclectic mix of antiques, paintings, family photographs and comfortable furniture. The gardens have been described as ‘stunning’ and are the subject of an on-going restoration programme. As well as the formal gardens and woodland walks there are numerous items of interest such as a classical temple, an obelisk, a grotto and an exedra, a small stone arbor housing funerary urns whose inscriptions date back to 50 AD! An all-day trip around some of interesting sites in and around Bodmin. We will start off visiting Bodmin Gaol, move on to Trago Mills where we’ll have lunch and in the afternoon be enchanted by Carnglaze Caverns. The Bodmin Gaol: this famous building was built between 1778 and 1815 as 3 prisons – a County Gaol for serious offenders, a Debtors’ Prison and a House of Correction for minor offenders. It was built as a “model” prison with good facilities for the inmates and was considered to be very progressive for its time. In fact it was very sparsely populated until the end of the Napoleonic Wars when veterans were discharged en masse with no support, resulting in a nationwide crime wave. Between 1735 and 1909 there were 60 executions carried out in Bodmin, with the condemned being housed in Bodmin Gaol once it was ready to accept inmates. Now the prison is a museum and tourist attraction after a big redevelopment. The gaol is reputed to be haunted, even featuring in the TV series “Most Haunted”. Many visitors reporting feeling “a presence” or “an atmosphere” within the building. We’ll then head to Trago Mills, a very unusual department store. From the outside it looks like a fairy castle, from the inside it has 38 departments with 200,000 of retail space. This is a good place to stop for lunch with 3 restaurants and some cafes. There’s a beautiful riverside walk along the Fal River just outside. For the afternoon, we’ll head to Carnglaze Carverns. It goes 60m underground and 120m into the hillside and comprises of 3 huge caverns. The last one which contains a deep, crystal lake. The first carven was used in the second world war to house the Royal Navy’s rum stockpile. Nowadays its a 400-seat amphitheatre were events are held throughout the year. Bring a jumper as the temperature throughout the year is a constant 10 degrees centigrade!
