The Story of my Polish Grandfather – Before, During and After the Second World War - Sunday 30 August
World War Two was one of the most devastating conflicts in history, join Sean Szmalc whose collection makes up the 'Our Freedom and Yours' exhibition as we take a journey back to the years of 1939 -1945. Through storytelling of the times including the life of Sean's Grandfather, before, during and after the Second World War gain an incredible insight into a Polish soldier during World War Two. Encounter rare historical artefacts from the War as you view and learn the fascinating stories attached to them. Join us for a talk where the past is always present. Following the presentation, there will be a question and answer session and an opportunity for discussion.

Katagami Stencil Cutting - 5th September
Katagami is a Japanese technique of hand cutting stencils traditionally using a washi based stencil paper. The stencils can be used to print with a resist onto fabric or paper as well as printing using pigments directly through the stencil. On this workshop we will look at traditional Japanese Katagami stencils as inspiration, discussing the different techniques of stencil cutting before planning out your own small design and cutting it out with a scalpel. We will test the stencil using indigo pigment on to paper and you’ll be able to take your stencil home to use for further experimentation. 1pm - 3.30pm
Tideline Mini Embroidery - 4th October
Capture the essence of the coast as you create a stitched doodle inspired by the Tideline with Ruth. Begin by stitching shells onto a fabric background (Use those provided or bring some of your own) Be guided as you create hand embroidered patterns and textures in the background space, to capture the essence of time by the sea. You may wish to complete the artwork at home and display it in the mini 11cm embroidery hoop supplied. All materials provided (bring your own shells if you have some special ones that you would like to use) 1pm - 3.30pm
Stitch-Scapes 22nd September & 4th October
Join Liske for a short collage & stitch workshop. Dip into our hand dyed & printed fabrics to create your own landscape or seascape. We will then enjoy some slow stitching to add details and character to your piece. Finished landscape will be approx 12cm square and can be mounted onto a wooden block. 22nd September & 4th October 10am - 12.30pm
Layered Landscape: Print & Stitch - 22nd September
Enjoy a taste of working in mixed media, as you create a textile layered landscape with Ruth Parkinson -Johns. Begin by adding a flourish of print to your pre-painted fabric, creating a background texture of grasses. Then embellish the foreground area further, with hand embroidery stitches representing grasses and flowers. You may wish to complete your Artwork at home and display it in the mini 11cm hoop supplied. 1pm - 3.30pm
Fantasty Flower Stitched Doodle - September 5th
Enjoy the soothing rhythm of hand embroidery as you create a Fantasy Flower stitched Doodle with Ruth Parkinson - Johns. Begin by creating a fabric flower motif from hand dyed fabrics. Attach this to the fabric base and add hand embroidery patterns in the background space to complete your artwork. You may wish to finish off the work at home and display the completed piece in the mini embroidery hoop supplied. 10am - 12.30pm
1940s Afternoon Tea
Enjoy 1940s songs from Helen Pearson whilst enjoying an afternoon tea of delicious cakes, homemade scones and sandwiches in our covered Cloisters area. This event will include and opportunity to visit the 'Our Freedom and Yours' exhibition. Please arrive from 4pm to visit the exhibition. As part of research for a book, Heather studied historical embroidered caskets from the V & A. The embroidery in this workshop was designed alongside a casket I made for the book and features scrolling stems of couched gold thread, a three-dimensional needlelace leaf, silk shaded strawberry and embellished with gold spangles.

Caroline Vincent joined the Sealed Knot as a student and met lovely people and had great fun, but from the start she felt the kit she wore could be improved. Since then, she has spent time researching, ,visiting museums, going to lectures and reading books to learn how to draft patterns and sew 17th century style clothes . It has sent her down many rabbit holes of exploration and in this fascinating talk she will show you what she has learnt with examples of what she has created.

We will be selling snacks, pizza and ice creams as well as a range of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.

Bring your family dog to meet Father Christmas in his grotto where they will receive a festive treat. All the family are welcome to attend but we ask that no more than 2 dogs attend a session at a time. Please only book one ticket per family unless you will be having more than 2 dogs attend. Christmas dress up is encouraged for dogs and owners and we will be providing photo opportunities, a festive agility course and snowball catching activity on our grassed area for your pets to enjoy. Make a morning of it with a walk on the Abbey Meadows and festive refreshments (including Puppuccinos) from the Mill View Coffee Bar. As always, well behaved dogs on a lead on site please.
Mornings With Father Christmas
An opportunity for little ones to meet Father Christmas on a quieter day. Perfect for those first visits! Complete a trail around the site, make a Christmas decoration and share your list with Father Christmas. Your time slot indicates the half hour when you will visit our grotto but there is opportunities to interact with Father Christmas outside of this time and trail and craft can also be done outside of this time. Please dress warmly as some activity will be outside.

Titanic Treasures and Tales
An interactive voyage of discovery for children in an hour long workshop to bring the story of the Titanic to life. Children will learn about the Titanic from her building at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast to the tragic maiden voyage through artefact handling, hearing survivors stories and taking part in craft activities and games. The workshop is led by Sean Szmalc, owner of the Titanic: Honour and Glory exhibition.

Star Wars Characters Drawing and Colouring Workshop
To celebrate 'The Toys Strike Back' exhibition we have a fantastic opportunity for learning to draw and colour your favourite Star Wars characters with Lucasfilm accredited artist, Lee Bradley. These workshops have been supported by 'Arts in Redditch' and will run for a morning to include a break from 10am - 12.30pm. Participants will spend the first half drawing a character and will then ink and colour it in. Each workshop will have a different focus. Father Christmas at the Christmas Craft Fair
Visit Father Christmas in his grotto at our annual Craft Fair event. Cost includes gift. Places are booked in half hour time slots so you will be seen within this half hour window but there might be a short wait. Please make your way to the Grotto which is situated in the mill building just next to the waterwheel during your time slot.
Bat Walk
Join us on a walk around the Abbey Meadows and Museum site with experts from Brum Bats. Wear strong shoes, dress warmly and bring a torch.
Santa Paws at Forge Mill
Bring your family dog to meet Father Christmas in his grotto where they will receive some 'Milo's Munchies' festive dog treats. All the family are welcome to attend but we ask that no more than 2 dogs attend a session at a time. Please only book one ticket per family unless you will be having more than 2 dogs attend. Christmas dress up is encouraged and we will be providing a festive agility course and snowball catching activity on our grassed area for your pets to enjoy. Make a morning of it with a walk on the Abbey Meadows and festive refreshments (including Puppuccinos) from the Mill View Coffee Bar. As always, well behaved dogs on a lead on site please.
Scooby Doo Haunted House Lego Workshop
Come and create your own haunted house out of lego with Create Build Learn. Under 8s to be accompanied by an adult. Please only book places for children participating. Times of workshops are 10am, 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm.
Mornings With Father Christmas
An opportunity for younger ones to meet Father Christmas at a quieter time as well as create a decoration for the tree and complete a Christmas trail outside (remember to wrap up warm!). Please arrive during your half hour time slot but you may complete the craft and trail outside of this time. Festive refreshments will be available from the Coffee Bar.

Silent Disco - Saturday 25 May
Come and enjoy a Silent Disco on Saturday 25 May in the unique surroundings of our Cloisters area and grounds. Dance the night away and have a night to remember with family and friends. We have a family disco from 5 - 7pm and an adult only disco from 7.30 - 11 with music starting at 8. There is also a combined ticket option for those who want to enjoy both events. Freshly cooked pizza from Pizza Heaven will be available from 5 -9pm. There will be a bar selling a selection of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.

Explore nature, develop skills and have fun in the outdoors with our Home Ed Forest School. We would recommend for children between ages of 6 and 11. Midsummer Soiree
Bring the whole family for an early evening Summer celebration. There will be tasty tapas served by Tapas Zampa alongside gin sampling with Piston Gin. Our bar will also be selling a selection of Piston Gin drinks as well as a range of other drinks. Jazz Alchemy will be providing the Summer sounds and the play area and some garden games will be available for families to enjoy. Music, food and drink is the ideal way to finish the week and discover that Friday feeling!

Picnic and Pimms - 20 July
Celebrate the start of the Summer holidays with our annual 'Picnic and Pimms' event. Bring a picnic and enjoy acoustic sounds from Chris Slater as well as a journey through the decades with the Violettes. A music event for all to enjoy - come and dance in the open air! 'The Secret Garden' Outdoor Theatre
Join Mary, Colin and Dickon as they tell you the story of their favourite place in the world - The Secret Garden. Original music, puppetry, interactions and laughs, a re-imagining of the classic book for those who love the great outdoors! Recommended for age 5 + Gates open at 4.30pm. The performance begins at 5.00pm. Please bring your own picnics, blankets and seats to enjoy this performance in the beautiful, natural surroundings of Forge Mill. Teddy Bear Talk and Book Signing with the 'Teddy Bear Ladies'
Meet Julie Tatchell and Amanda Middleditch, best known as the ‘teddy bear ladies’ stars of the BBC's The Repair Shop, talking about their first children’s book: Bartie Bristle and Other Stories. Hear about their inspirations for the book, their friendship and their fascinating career. The talk is followed by a book signing and around the site there will be a teddy bear's picnic and teddy bear themed activities for all the family. Bookings are required for the talk only.

February Wildlife Walk
Join Gary Farmer, chair of the Redditch Local Group of Worcestershire Wildlife Trust for a guided walk around the Abbey Meadows as shares his knowledge and expertise. The walk will be followed by hot drinks and bacon rolls (vegetarian option available) back at the Museum and there will also be an opportunity to enjoy the ‘Wildlife and Nature’ exhibition by Redditch Photographic Society.
