LEARN ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE TRIMONTIUM ROMAN FORT & THE NATIVE IRON AGE  OF THE SCOTTISH BORDERS Probably the finest collection of Roman military objects anywhere in Britannia!  Dating back to the first major invasion into the North in 79AD, Trimontium was a cavalry fort, with anywhere between 1500-3000 soldiers behind its huge walls and layers of defensive ditches. The museum tells the story of the people who lived and worked at the fort, through the fascinating items they left behind, as well as the stories of those whose landscape was invaded. Using interactive screens, audio visuals and a wealth of some of the finest artefacts, discover a tales of two peoples determined to claim the beautiful Borders countryside as their own.
