Bristol & The Slave Trade Walking Tour - September 12, 2026- 10 AM

This walking tour of Linden Place and downtown Bristol is focused specifically on the DeWolf family and their involvement in the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. The DeWolf family was once one of the largest traders of slaves in New England. Learn how Bristol, New  England, and all of the United States were impacted by the slave trade from our museum educators. The tour begins at Linden Place Mansion, continues through the  center of historic Bristol and down to the waterfront of Thames Street, pointing out significant sites tied to Bristol's lengthy and profitable involvement in the slave  trade. The tour is an approximately 1/2 mile walk. ​  Duration: 2 hours  ​ This tour does involve going inside the Mansion.  ***While service animals are welcome at Linden Place, pets and emotional support animals are not permitted.***

Olivia Dolphin describes it this way: "It's pop music with a dark instrumental vibe. It's like if Tori Amos, Fleetwood Mac, Hozier, and Billie Eilish blended their sound. It's vulnerable lyrics about shared experiences. It's the beleive that live music is modern spell casting. It's the magic of us all." Join storyteller Lynn Smith for a "walk" through Colt State Park - no sneakers required! Samuel Pomeroy Colt loved to collect art, fine cars, and women. He knew how to make money, too. Follow him from his home at 500 Hope St., now known as Linden Place, to his gentleman's farm, now known as Colt State Park. Through this slideshow presentation, we'll 'walk' through his farm property, and also make 'stops' at his mansion on Fifth Avenue in New York and his fishing camp on Kidney Pond in Maine. Along the way, we'll watch the United States Rubber Company on Wood Street in Bristol grow - and take a prominent place in strategic war goods production during World War II. From scandal to success, his life as a Gilded Age industrialist, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and Renaissance man is filled with fascinating twists and turns. Admission is free. Come to the quintessential whodunnit thriller at the estate of Sir Warren Peace and get thrown into a night of mystery, intrigue, and murder you will never forget. With a killer crowd of people just waiting for murder to arrive on the scene, this night will keep everyone looking over their shoulders and guessing who the next victim will be! Bribe suspects for clues and gather information to uncover the unhinged guest who is whacking all the invitees. Just be careful, because you could be next! Dress your best in evening wear and suits—this is a refined party, after all. Your ticket includes dinner, 1 drink ticket (beer, wine, or soda), and a murder mystery game where you try to figure out whodunnit. Roles for every comfort level (from high participation to just guessing who the murderer is). Costumes encouraged but not required. Dinner and appetizers provided by Leo's Ristorante and CP Catering.
