Spend three hours creating beautiful botanicals in pen and watercolour with Kate Dawes.  A relaxed pen & watercolour workshop.  Suitable for all abilities.   Small workshop.   Kate will show you different techniques of pen drawing, along with how to overlay with 'dry' watercolour to create beautiful botanical art.  All materials are provided.    She will offer support and guidance to help everyone develop their personal style, understand composition, colour mixing, and achieve a more confident approach to art.   Flowers and foliage from the Rode Hall estate will be provided to work from, and to inspire you to create A4 botanical artworks to take home with you. We also plan to go out into Rode Hall gardens to practise pen drawing techniques and to look closely at the flowers to gain further inspiration.  Suitable for all abilities from absolute beginners to the more experienced artist, who would like to try a new technique and approach to art. All materials supplied.

Rode Hall is a beautiful Cheshire country house with a fine collection of English porcelain which has been in the ownership of the Baker Wilbraham family since 1669.  During the summer the ground flour is open to the public which includes the entrance hall, library, ante-room, staircase hall, drawing room and dining room. Rode Hall is a fine early eighteenth century country house set in a Repton landscape.  It has been home to the Wilbraham family since 1669 and the extensive grounds include a woodland garden, formal garden designed by Nesfield in 1860 and a stunning 2 walled kitchen garden full of flowers and vegetables that are used in the courtyard kitchen and sold at the monthly farmers market. Our wonderful specialist plant fair is run in  conjunction with flowerpowerfairs.co.uk  and features highly respected plant nurseries and garden stands selling directly to you with a huge diversity of plants, shrubs and accessories for sale.   A must for finding those unusual plants you don't find at the garden centre! This immersive workshop invites participants to explore the poetry of gardens around Rode Hall through the luminous use of paint, harnessing glazing mediums, diluted acrylics and acrylic inks. We will spend three creativity-filled days layering paint to conjure atmospheric and ethereal compositions. Rather than simply depicting a garden scene, we will delve into the essence of the landscape—collecting impressions, textures, colours, and forms that speak to the atmosphere and mood of these green spaces. Inspired by the fairy tale wild gardens around Rode Hall, you'll gather marks, lines, and shapes, transforming them into something new, evocative, and expressive. Visit one of the most beautiful displays of Bluebells in the North West at Rode Hall & Gardens. Take the mile long walk through the magical Bluebell Wood, carpeted with the stunning, ancient blue flowers, and wander down to Rode Pool where herons can be spotted nesting on Birthday Island.  Along the way there will also be lots of beautiful Springtime flowers to discover including azalea, rhododendrons and narcissi making it a truly wonderful walk and a sure sign that Spring is well and truly here at last! We're thrilled to welcome back, Emma Cronin, from Wild Pickle , who will be guiding you through the process of making your own fermented vegetables. Join us for a delightful 3 hour workshop where you'll learn the art of fermenting sauerkraut using organic vegetables.  As we start to welcome the start of Spring this interactive class will guide you through the fermentation process, showcasing how to transform fresh vegetables into tangy, flavoursome, nutrient rich sauerkraut to guide you into a fabulous 2026! You will take home your own ferment and the workshop would also make an ideal gift for friends and family. We will also be sharing various fermented food tasters in the form of a light lunch and  you will also be able to visit our beautiful Snowdrop Walk. Everything will be provided and you will leave with your own creation and a new found confidence in your skills to carry on at home.

Rode Hall Snowdrop Walk Experience one of the UK’s most popular Snowdrop Walks at Rode Hall & Gardens in Cheshire to mark the start of spring. In today’s uncertain world Snowdrops are a sure sign that Spring is well and truly under way! A beautiful end-of-winter walk for all the family with a wonderfully diverse landscape and over 70 varieties of snowdrops. Walk along paths amidst carpets of white flowers on an enchanting mile-long route. Take in the wild beauty of cascading snowdrops in the Old Wood and Wild Garden, the scenic path down to the Lake and drifts of snowdrops in the borders of the formal Nesfield garden in front of the Hall. New for this year are the magical creatures and glittering mythical beasts from the world of our friends and neighbours Wild Rumpus emerging into the woodland.  Highlights are also the two acre Walled Kitchen Garden and an unmissable vista down the Colonel’s Walk where some of the rarest varieties can be viewed!
