Friday 9th October at 5.45pm Twilight canal cruise to Widbrook Wood in the company of a bat expert who will help you to learn about the sorts of bats we might see and offer tuition in how to use a bat detector. As darkness descends, you will be able to put your bat detecting skills into practice, and both see and hear some of these curious little creatures. This very popular event includes a donation to the Wiltshire Bat Group.  Please note: this event means walking along the towpath plus disembarking and reboarding after dark. It is suited to those who have a reasonable level of fitness, and as such we are unfortunately unable to accommodate wheelchair users on this trip.  Please wear strong footwear, warm clothes and bring a head torch. Fairly soon the canal is travelling along the side of the hill with views towards Bathford and over the valley of the River Avon. We reach Brassknocker Basin, the junction with the old Somerset Coal Canal, just before the canal crosses the river on Dundas Aqueduct. There may be time for passengers to disembark briefly to look at the aqueduct before we start our return journey to Bathampton. Occasionally, if the canal is very busy, the trip will take longer than 2½ hours. A 2-hour trip up to Fobney Lock and back, including Afternoon Tea. Trips run on the last Sunday of the month at 2.30pm. Departing from Star Lane Wharf (behind Queen’s Road Car Park RG1 4AR) travelling through the Oracle, through County Lock and onward to Fobney lock where we turn and return to the town. The journey ends passing the Old Prison and the Abbey ruins. A chance to see Reading from a different perspective as well as discovering something of the role the river has played in the town’s history while enjoying your Cream Tea. Matilda Too is a 12-seat narrowboat based in Reading. A regular trip on Thursday, Saturday and Sundays at 12:00 and 14:00 from May to October with this changing to 11:00, 13:00 and 14:45 in the school holidays. We also run on most bank holiday Mondays.  Board our canal boat for a relaxing trip through historic Newbury with our enthusiastic, knowledgeable and fully-trained volunteer crew. There’s plenty of interest to be seen as you rise up a lock and cruise through a swing bridge. Jubilee  operates from next to the Stone Building on Newbury Wharf, the best postcode to use is RG14 5AS .  There are ample public car parks nearby.On to Northcroft where the boat turns for the return journey.  The trip lasts just over an hour. Jubilee is based on a traditional canal boat, seating up to 25 passengers; there is a licensed bar and a toilet on board. Access to the boat is up 2 steps and down 5 steps. Sorry Jubilee does not have the facilities to load passengers in wheelchairs. All passengers must be able to enter and leave the cabin using the steps at the entrance. A 45-minute trip through the Oracle and around the Forbury Loop. Trips run on Friday (during summer holidays), Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays at noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Departing from Star Lane Wharf (behind Queen’s Road Car Park RG1 4AR) travelling through the Oracle then passing the Old Prison and the Abbey ruins. A chance to see Reading from a different perspective as well as discovering something of the role the river has played in the town’s history. Matilda Too is a 12-seat narrowboat based in Reading. Jubilee is based on a traditional canal boat, seating up to 25 passengers; there is a licensed bar and a toilet on board. Our Halloween themed trip for half term week. Join Jubilee for a frightful cruise through Newbury. The boat and the crew will be dressed up for the occasion and passengers are invited to be dressed to trick and they might get a treat! Children will enjoy a ’spooky’ story, a Halloween quiz and, for those who dare, a chance at our ’trick or treat’ box! Children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Trips last an hour. Jubilee  operates from next to the Stone Building on Newbury Wharf, the best postcode to use is RG14 5AS . Access to the boat is up 2 steps and down 5 steps. Sorry Jubilee does not have the facilities to load passengers in wheelchairs. All passengers must be able to enter and leave the cabin using the steps at the entrance. The crew will be on hand to offer assistance. Please leave pushchairs in your car if possible. Otherwise they can only be carried on the roof.  This trip can be loud and isn't suitable for dogs. Visit the famous Caen Hill flight of locks by boat. A regular 1 hour 30 minute trip runs from Hungerford Wharf usually at 11:30 on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays, also 14:30 in October. The Hungerford Branch of the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust covers a particularly beautiful stretch of the canal, between Kintbury and Great Bedwyn. The main activity is running The Rose of Hungerford, a traditional widebeam boat, based at Hungerford Wharf, which offers regular public trips and private charters along the canal. The Rose has large picture windows at the front and along both sides which can be opened in good weather and efficient central heating if it is a bit chilly. The boat is crewed and run by fully-trained volunteers so all funds raised can go to the Trust. We welcome passengers young and old and are delighted to have the opportunity to show our guests all that the Kennet and Avon Canal has to offer; beautiful countryside, historic buildings and a wide variety of wildlife. The crew will ensure your comfort and safety during the trip and you can enjoy a range of refreshments. We have a wheelchair lift for anybody unable to board and disembark the boat using steps. You are booking for a trip to Wire Lock on the Rose of Hungerford located at Canal Walk, just off Hungerford High Street (RG17 0EQ). Departing at 14:30 and returning at 17:00 most Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays until the end of September. A 2.5 hour public return trip through Dun Mill & Wire Locks from Hungerford Wharf, passing under some classic canal bridges, we go east, tracking the River Dun with its multiplicity of fish farms, and on the edge of the lovely Hungerford Port Down. Beside the first lock, Dun Mill, is one of the famous fortified “Pill Boxes”, built as part of a defence line along the canal at the start of World War II, and manned by the Home Guard. Beyond the lock, the Dun flows into the beautiful chalk-stream River Kennet in the valley below. Following the river valley, we then pass through Wire Lock. Here – depending on the conditions – passengers can disembark briefly to stretch their legs and enjoy the views of the beautiful Berkshire countryside. They may also, under the supervision of our crew, assist in opening the gates and working the lock paddles! Meanwhile, we turn the boat below the lock, before picking everyone up again for the return trip to the Wharf. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Join Jubilee as she makes her way back up the Kennet Navigation after attending the Reading Waterfest.  This is a once-a-year opportunity to travel on the eastern end of the K&A starting in Forbury Gardens and finishing at The Cunning Man - an ideal place for a nice meal.  This is a one-way trip on 28th June 2026.
