Seeing the Dead: Roman Gypsum Burials in York with Prof Maureen Carroll
ONLINE and IN PERSON
Prof. Carroll is Professor of Archaeology at the University of York. She also leads the ‘Seeing the Dead’ project, which has used 3D imaging and other scientific techniques to examine over 20 gypsum-encrusted Roman period inhumations found in York, Doncaster, and surrounding areas. Fine details from fabrics to fingerprints have been preserved by the plaster and Prof Carroll will share some of the rare insights that have been gained into the care and attention lavished by the Romans on their dead, young and old.
