On this walking tour you'll hear about the industrialists who brought writing to the masses, about the man who bought the Rotten Park Estate who helped create Birmingham University and who started Lloyds Bank. You'll hear how the Jewellery Quarter developed finishing the tour at the Pen Museum where you can make your own steel pen nib. Meet by the entrance to St Paul’s Church, St Paul’s Square, B3 1QZ at 10am. Tour ends at The Pen Museum, 60 Frederick Street, B1 3HS.

Opening Times (Thursday – Saturday 11:00 – 16:00 - Sunday 12:00 – 16:00  Last entry at 15:00.  Making steel pen nibs in Birmingham during the Victorian era was a major industry with 129 companies employing circa 8,000 workers (mostly women). When visiting the Pen Museum, you will discover a wide range of fascinating objects and details that help tell the story of Birmingham’s pen trade and its important legacy. Throughout the Museum there are a range of interactive activities for all ages to enjoy. The Pen Museum is proud to announce brand new guided tours for 2026. These tours will be announced roughly two weeks ahead of time and will be delivered by our trained Heritage Tour Guides.
